Learning Through Exploration

In the Bilby Room, children are encouraged to explore through hands-on experiences and sensory-rich activities. They enjoy messy play, pretend play with animals, cars, and dolls, and early music and movement sessions. Through these explorations, toddlers develop curiosity, problem-solving skills, and creativity while learning about cause and effect, textures, sounds, and the natural world.

Building Independence

A key focus for toddlers is developing basic life skills and confidence. Children are supported to:

  • Practice dressing themselves with help for shoes, jumpers, and hats

  • Serve their own snacks and drinks

  • Take care of their personal belongings

These routines help toddlers feel capable, responsible, and confident, forming a strong foundation for future learning.

Social and Emotional Development

Toddlers are learning how to express their feelings and interact with others. In the Bilby Room, children are guided to:

  • Communicate needs and emotions through words and gestures

  • Share toys and take turns

  • Engage in simple cooperative play

These experiences foster empathy, resilience, and a sense of belonging within the group.

Physical Development and Outdoor Play

Gross motor activities are a vital part of our program. Our outdoor environments provide opportunities for children to:

  • Climb, balance, and run

  • Explore group games and physical challenges

  • Develop coordination, strength, and spatial awareness

Physical play not only supports healthy growth but also encourages confidence and curiosity in movement.

Sensory and Creative Learning

Sensory experiences are embedded throughout the day, from exploring textures, water, and sand to engaging with musical instruments and light exploration activities. These activities stimulate all the senses, supporting cognitive development, focus, and creativity.

In the Bilby Room, we aim to nurture curious, confident, and joyful toddlers who are learning to move, communicate, and explore the world around them in exciting and meaningful ways.
